Pilamaya - thank you - for your interest in our 32nd Annual Children's Powwow!

St. Joseph's Indian School has hosted this weekend of Lakota culture and heritage since 1976, and we're proud to share the festivities with friends like you from around the nation.

Our Chamberlain, South Dakota campus will be buzzing with activity during our Lakota (Sioux) powwow. And, we hope you can join the celebration. We know you'll enjoy our little town on the Missouri River, and you can find accommodations for your visit by clicking here!

You can enjoy free Native American cultural activities like:

  • A tiyospaye - extended family - banquet on Friday night
  • Cultural demonstrations - Lakota games, dreamcatcher crafting, traditional storytelling with boys and girls in our Lakota Studies classes and more!
  • Tours of St. Joseph's Indian School's campus, school and the children's homes
  • A special Native American presentation in the recreation center, located on campus
  • An all day powwow dance competition on Saturday for Lakota children of all ages
  • Indian drum group competition
  • Traditional Lakota (Sioux) meals
  • And much, much more!!
