St. Joseph’s is proud to announce eight new families will graduate from the FAST program on October 26!
Families And Schools Together, or FAST, has been offered to St. Joseph’s students and their families since 2004. Through a series of meetings held on St. Joseph’s campus, families learn games and activities to help strengthen family bonds and teach communication skills.

Statistics show children who feel close to their families are LESS likely to:
- Join gangs;
- Use drugs and alcohol;
In addition, by being close to their families, our students are MORE likely to:
- Do well in school;
- Go on to college or other post-secondary education;

During a typical FAST session, participants share a meal and then break into family groups. There is time for fun family activities, as well as one-on-one time with their children. In addition to games and learning communication skills, there is quiet time for parents to offer each other advice in a supportive group setting.
FAST helps families learn to communicate more effectively become stronger, which helps the children make better choices!
Family groups vary in FAST, sometimes including grandparents, aunts or uncles in addition to parents and children.

“It seems FAST gets better every session,” said April, St. Joseph’s FAST Parent Partner. “Being able to watch our FAST team help families grow and learn is so rewarding; I am grateful to the families for their hard work and dedication.”
FAST sessions are held at St. Joseph’s each fall and spring, and has been recognized as one of the most effective prevention and parent-involvement programs in the United States, working to build strong communication skills and strengthen family relationships.
