Where do the Lakota (Sioux) students go after they graduate? What are they doing now?

College Updates:

Between May and July 2016, 12 scholarship recipients will be graduating with degrees!
Six are St. Joseph’s alumni:

  • LaSheena will graduate from United Tribes with a degree in Business Administration
  • D’Kera will graduate from Southeast Tech as an LPN
  • Whitney will graduate from Sinte Gleska with a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Mental Health
  • Pteska from Oglala Lakota College with a Masters in Administration
  • JaTonne will graduate from the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences with a Certificate in Audio Engineering
  • Keenan will graduate from Haskell Indian Nations University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare

Six additional Native American scholarship recipients finishing their education include:

  • Christopher will graduate from the University of Minnesota Morris with a degree in Business Administration
  • Ashley will complete her courses at the Academy of Cosmetology and receive a certificate in Cosmetology
  • Terrell will graduate from Northern State University with a degree in Business Management
  • Frankie will graduate from SDSU with a bachelor’s degree in Education & Human Services
  • Matilyn will graduate from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurial Studies
  • Caressa will graduate from United Tribes with a degree in Business Management

We were thrilled to welcome alumnus Will back to campus to visit with current students!

We welcomed Will back to campus to visit with current students!

Will attended St. Joseph’s Indian School from eighth grade through his junior year. He currently serves the United States of America as a member of the Navy. He has been deployed to multiple countries including Japan, Australia, South Korea, the Philippians and Guam. He works as a Radar System Controller, operating and maintaining ship radar equipment. Thank you for your service, Will!

We are thrilled to have three alumni working at St. Joseph’s Indian School!

Cody went to St. Joseph’s for her entire school career, graduating from high school in 2006. After earning her degree in Business Management and Marketing, Cody worked at Little Wound School. She recently moved back to Chamberlain with her three children, Brooklyn, Jeffrey and Charlee. Cody works in the Development Office as a Mail Processor and is really enjoying the job.

What she liked most about being a student at St. Joseph’s was the support from the staff and the positive encouragement.

Advice to current students: Education is the key to bettering your future.


Glenn is a custodian at St. Joseph’s Indian School.

Glenn is a custodian at St. Joseph’s Indian School.

Glenn attended St. Joseph’s from 1988 – 1992. He graduated from Crow Creek High School in 1996. He currently is working in the dining hall as a kitchen custodian. Glenn is married to Lois and has three children who attend St. Joseph’s: Brennan, Shawna and Chris.

What he liked most about his time at St. Joseph’s was all the activities offered to students there was always something to do! Glenn felt safe and thought St. Joseph’s was a good place to be.

Advice to current students: Keep the grades up and get involved as much as you can with all the things St. Joseph’s has to offer.

Todd attended St. Joseph’s from 1977 – 1979. He graduated from Crow Creek High School in 1988. He is working on St. Joseph’s facilities crew as a carpenter. Todd has five children: Tyrell, Tylynn, Tylecia, Tynice, and Todd Jr.

What Todd liked most about St. Joseph’s was everything. “I didn’t have one bad moment while I was here,” he said.

Advice to current students: He would like to tell the students of today: “Stay in school and graduate.”
