Greetings to everyone in this busy and exciting month of May!

On Saturday, May 11, our high school seniors graduated and on May 24 we will proudly handout diplomas for our eighth grade students as they complete their studies at St. Joseph’s and pursue their education at the local high school, yet remaining on campus next year in residence as part of our high school program.

We have been blessed recently with some rain and the grass in the surrounding area is green and breathtaking to look at, particularly from the campus of St. Joseph’s as evening sunsets on the Missouri River along with the rolling green hills is a sight that undoubtedly attracts visitors each year.

As we are approaching the end of the school year, visitors can enjoy the beautiful landscapes while touring St. Joseph’s as we are open for visitors year round. As visitors have an opportunity to see our Aktá Lakota museum and tour our campus they will see that St. Joseph’s is always a happening place, even in the summer months as our dedicated staff is committed to preparing the place for the new school year and all of the wonderful activities that bring to our students a holistic education-mind, body, heart and spirit.

This includes giving our students opportunities in recreation and I must say the expansion of the Recreation Center is coming along very nicely. I recently toured the progress that has been done so far with our St. Joseph’s Board of Directors who were equally impressed by the work that has gone into the project and the benefits and impression this will give to our students and staff alike.

I would like to once again thank you for your generosity and I look forward to taking our visitors on tours of the Recreation Center when the project is complete.

Peace and Blessings,

Stories from our Lakota Indian School

In an era abuzz about the teacher shortage and how it is affecting schools across South Dakota, one Native American scholarship recipient aims to make a difference by achieving a teaching certificate in the coming year.

Charity, An alum of St. Joseph’s Indian School, is a nine-time recipient of the school’s scholarship, which was started in 1985 to support Native Americans pursuing higher education. She hopes to soon complete her bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education at Sinte Gleska University.

Chelsea Wilson, an alum of St. Joseph’s, recently visited to host a hair clinic to help students express themselves through their hair.

The slogan for Chelsea Wilson’s “RezKutz” business is, “Your satisfaction is my goal,” and it’s something she lives out through the satisfaction of giving back to the school she attended from 1st through 8th grade: St. Joseph’s Indian School.
